What is the "Value"of New Customer
    From speaking with Limo companies we have found many do not know the true value of acquiring a  new customer.   Most respond with the price of the type of trip that they are taking.  They think in terms of a single ride.  What percentage of your current business is repeat business ?  What percentage of your current business is from referrals ?  What percentage of your high margin rides (weddings etc) is repeat business.  To calculate the true value of a new customer you will need to use averages for the following.
(Avg Profit per Trip * Average # of Trips)

As a simple example - Assuming Only Airport 
$60 Airport Trip - Price
$30 Airport Trip - Expense (Gas, Driver, Tolls)
$30 Airport Trip - Profit

Cost of Acquiring a New Customer
    Again when we ask a lot of companies what their cost of acquiring a new customer is, they do not know.  You need to understand and track your advertising efforts so you can determine which to continue and which to stop.   For every new customer who contacts you need to know "HOW" they heard about you. 

    Whether they saw an ad in the Yellow Pages, Local Newspaper, Radio Ad,  Internet, etc. or whether they were referred by an existing customer, the only way for you to continue to improve your advertising effectiveness is to monitor the results (new customers).  If you are not asking where they found you ... you need to. 

    The cost of acquring a new customer is the Cost of a Method / # of new customers from that method.

    As an example :
    Yellow Pages Ad - $500 per year - Gets 5 New Cusotmers per month (or) 60 per year
    Weekly Newspaper Ad - $25 - Gets 2 New Customers Each Time Run
    Radio Spot - $200 - Gets 5 New Customers Each Time Run
    Internet - $100 per year - Gets 3 Customers per Month (or) 36 per year
    Referrals - FREE - Gets 5 New Customers per Month (or) 60 per year

    Cost Per New Customer
    Yellow Pages Ad = $500/60 = $8.30
    Weekly Newspaper Ad = $25/2 = $12.50
    Radio Spot = $200/5 = $40
    Internet = $100/ 36 = $2.77

    Obviously the most important thing you can do is ask for referrals from your existing customers.  Give them a discount coupon for referrals or tell them refer 3 new customers and get a free trip, be creative but working your existing customer base for new referrals will always be your best source of new clients.


Cost Effective Advertising
    Once you know the value of acquiring a new customer and the cost per method of acquiring a new customer.  You will understand which methods are cost effective and which methods are not.  In the truest sense anytime you can get a new customer for less than your companies value of getting a new customer you would want to do so.  The Reality is that you do not have an unlimited advertising budget, so you need to focus on those methods providing the greatest return.  This is where using the internet should fit into your advertising strategy / budget. 

HITS vs Unique Visitors (And Conversion Ratio)
    Many companies focus solely on the number of hits that a particular site receives.  When they call us they ask how many "hits" we are getting.  Want to see our hit Stats for June 2002  (Check Total Hits 90,000+ on June 20th) ... wow 4,500 hits per day ... not so fast.  First "Hits" are not the measure you should be interested in, because a "hit" is registered everytime a file on our page is accessed. 

    You want to know how many people visited a site, NOT how many files were displayed.  You are intersted in "Unique Visitors"   Want to see our Visitors for June 2002    (Check Total Visits 6,000+ on June 20th).  Our site gets right about 300 unique visitors per day.

    Further even the number of unique visitors doesn't give you a true indication of a sites referral potential ... I could put your banners on a Britanny Spears sitewith 100,000 unique visitors per day and none of them are going to rent a limo from you.


Search Engine vs General Traffic (Conversion)
    Ultimately all you care about is how many of these visitors will call you and inquire about your business, and how many of those you can convert to customers.  The primary benefit of our site is that our traffic arrived at our page from one of the major search engines after having entered a phrase specifically related to limo services.

    This means they are actively looking for a limousine company, very similar to the yellow pages, you don't read through the yellow pages and you don't enter a limo service phrase in a search engine unless you are looking for the service.

    LimoLink.com
    Another popular site is LimoLink.com.  They operate on a different model where companies need to go through a rigorous process to be approved as affiliated companies.  They must agree to accept "whoesale" pricing for referrals from LimoLink.  I don't have the specifics but you would be paying a much larger portion but only on actual trips.

    LimousineDirectory.com
    We just found this site not too long ago, so I'm not that familiar with them, but the offer on their website is a good one.  They offer a $30 per year listing for your company and claim to have the largest database of limousine companies.  You need to understand your company may be listed with many other companies, so the traffic may be minimal.  We were not successful in finding them through various search engines so can not speak to the level of traffic they may be getting.  

    At $30 per year we would recommend you trying their service in addition to ours.
